A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

I'm so happy this book lived up to its hype!! This is a really well-thought-out novel with amazing writing, fast-paced narration, excellent momentum, and great smut scenes!

I'm awed by Maas's worldbuilding: she built her world sentence per sentence and not just chapter per chapter. Her plot is airtight and I loved the consistency in her writing--she pretty much wrote the first installment in a series that could also be considered a complete stand-alone. Every fantasy book I'm reading after this one is simply poor compared to the quality of Maa's work.

Many cliches and tropes that are overused in YA and NA literature are used here too, but the author managed to captivate her audience by:
a. satisfying their needs
b. setting even higher stakes for these needs
c. extremely paying off her readers' said needs and expectations

The character development is stellar and I can surely say that this book is not popular only about its smut. It's a popular and loved book among readers because it rests on many tropes that she cleverly uses to manipulate the readership and making it asking for more. I'm simply bereft of any words by Maas's talent, ingenuity and extraordinary plotting and writing skills.
