The Cage by Bonnie Kistler

5.0

This was really good, a legal thriller with shades of The Firm. Shay Lambert has already experienced both the dizzying heights of legal stardom and the lows of a layoff and resulting five-year attempt to start over. But now she's been given a chance to get back to the place she deserved with a job offer from CDMI, a fashion conglomerate. Unfortunately, a month into her employment the head of HR dies in mysterious circumstances and Shay is the only witness. Shay would do anything to get back on top -- but murder? On the other hand, why would the company go to so much trouble to frame her for a suicide? What really happened in the elevator?

Just to add, I read through some other comments and there is a lot of complaining about the legal parts. I worked briefly in a company that did administration work for shareholder class actions so I actually understood most of that part and it added to my enjoyment of the book. You don't HAVE to understand that part but it probably makes a big difference if a lot of technical information bores you. I found it a smart intriguing thriller and the corporate mechanics added a lot to the suspense.
