Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
3.0

There is a lot to like about this book, but I found it forgettable; this is unfortunate, since I think Riley Sager is a good author with a pleasant voice. I can't deny that he caught me off-guard near the end, but the payoff feels a bit stale despite a handful of intriguing twists; there is insufficient suspense or originality in the middle section of the story for us to regain that thrill. I've also come to the disappointing realization that I can't tell most of these characters apart, especially in terms of personality. This seems to be the latest in a line of intriguing but vanilla suspense novels that have not quite lived up to the author's potential. In my opinion, Lock Every Door almost made it. I'm hoping the new one brings it home.
