Taken in context of the time it was written and the genre, this is a good thriller/mystery. I don't necessarily think I would enjoy the series as a whole, but I enjoyed this one as a stand alone.I wouldn't necessarily call Marlowe a good man as he seems to live in shades of gray, but he is an interesting characters.
