The Victorian House: Domestic Life from Childbirth to Deathbed
by Judith Flanders
Thorough, well-researched, well-written. Just occasionally the social history overpowers the actual house history. The chapter on 'The Parlour', for example, contains no information at all about parlours, what they looked like or what they were used for - it's about Victorian marriage customs.
