In a preliminary book of an intended series, time must be taken to flesh out all the players, big and small. I missed this connection because the pace was too fast. And the timeline was confusing. Some times she mentions it being her second day at the school and sometimes it goes back to her first day.
In addition to the players, the important world building, lore, mythology and history is built. Everyone is put on their place on the chess board and the end game is foreshadowed.
Despite all this, this is a great book for lovers of teen vampire anything like Vampire Diaries, Twilight etc.

I received a copy via VoraciousReadersOnly and all opinions are my own.
