Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen: Reflections at Sixty and Beyond
by Larry McMurtry
Sort of a memoir, but really more about books--their physical life as well as their social & spiritual meaning. And about how childhood and place & circumstances shaped his life and his writing. Some fascinating (and weird) stuff about the after-effects of his heart surgery, including a 2-year loss of his ability to read for enjoyment. He could still research and write, though.
