I did not like this book. I wanted to like it. I enjoyed the "big word" vocabulary. But I did not enjoy the writing style full of short choppy sentences (like I am using in this review). I didn't like characters except for the dad, Mr. Buckman, who had a sense of humor.
The mother treated Flora rudely and unkindly throughout the book and said she wanted a "normal daughter" who had lots of friends and then suddenly at the end is worried and sad that her daughter wasn't home in bed and changes how she feels??? Trite.
I liked the illustrations and wish it were a wordless book without the mom.
