The Paris Soulmate by Brooke Gilbert

funny lighthearted medium-paced

3.5

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Copy provided by BooksGoSocial.

Reeling from the reality of turning 30 soon, Christine decides to take her bucket list trip. She has always dreamed of going back to Paris, but since being diagnosed with several rare autoimmune disorders,  she never imagined she would get the chance to return.

Now she finds herself on her way to the city of love with an unexpected surprise. An extremely handsome British stranger seems to have mysteriously fallen onto her path. Is it just a coincidence they are both traveling to the city of love at the same time? It all seems too good to be true. Will Christine find what she is looking for in Paris?

The Paris Soulmate is a sweet rom-com that takes you on a seven-day whirlwind trip to Paris. It will have you swooning and laughing. Christine was such an interesting character to read about. She is a lot of walls, fears, regrets and wishes for the future. It was fun to see one of her dreams come true throughout this book in getting herself to Paris. There was however insta-love which is not my cup of tea, but I think the concept worked here with the conflict that came after. Everything seemed to happen so fast between the two of them that there was very little build-up throughout the book. Their days in Paris felt repetitive despite the different locations. I would  have loved more of an epilogue and maybe more from Doris or the other side characters to bring more laughs and dimension to the book. I also applaud the author for her representation of autoimmune diseases and major health challenges. She does a great job letting the reader in on those complications and what those situations can entail. All in all I enjoyed this book and love that the author included a movie list and Spotify list to be enjoyed along with the book. I felt like I was in Paris and that’s always a wonderful place to be.
