A whimsical and soothing continuation of this story, with touching moments and a fulfilling journey.

In book one, A Psalm for the Wild Built, we learn that our lovely robot friend Mosscap is on a journey to ask human kind “what do you need?” so that the robots can learn how humans are doing. When the first book ended I was so ready to see what that journey would look like for Mosscap and Dex. So I immediately started book two, A Prayer for the Crown-Shy. I loved visiting the different towns again in this book, but this time with a robot at Dex’s side. I loved learning more about this planet’s cultures and environments. The world building was so fun and whimsical, I loved everything about it. I also loved meeting so many new side characters and even Dex’s family! The characters in this story aren’t complex and yet they are well thought out and interesting at every turn.

Dex and Mosscap dived into more serious and complex conversation again. I feel like the discussions in this book hit home more for me, so I really enjoyed them. And I love the incredible friendship of our two main characters. They are so kind and real, and well thought out as characters. The ending of this book was bittersweet for me, as it ends with one last deep conversation that hit wayyyy too close to home for me, lol. And a somewhat open ending where we don’t get to see all of their adventures, but we know that they have each other so they will be okay.

The reason I gave this book 4 stars is the same reason I gave book one 4 stars. Though I loved the world building and characters, I was hoping for a more satisfying story arch. Especially with how hyped up this series is, I was expecting more from it. But it was a fun, interesting, and complex cozy sci-fi that I would recommend if you’re in the mood for a slow pace, life lesson filled duology.
