Somewhere between 4-4.5 stars

One of the best entries into the series so far. I loved having all four main POVs and we got more of Alex, Amos, and Naomi than Holden it felt like (balancing out the rest of the series).

A lot of fucked up shit happened in this one and I’m intrigued to see where the politics go from here. I feel that while the alien mystery element is intriguing, this series really shines with the politics and different human cultures - the infighting and oppression/discrimination is something humans are unfortunately VERY good at and it’s interesting seeing how that can translate with space travel and cultures (and how extensor factions can take extreme measures with a mix of intentions).

That said - I’ll contradict myself a little and say I hope we learn more about the protomolecule and alien mysteries soon. Book 4 kinda broke my brain with that and we didn’t really focus on it in this one.

And finally I’m happy with how the authors handled Naomi’s past and her story arc this book. It felt well done and she’s a better developed character in this book versus the others. I want that same energy and improvement to continue though!

And poor Filip - I just want him to escape his situation and get a LOT of therapy. He absolutely deserved better parents and he could still have that somewhat (iykyk).
