So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo

5.0

There were a lot of times where I felt myself get defensive and feel like this book was unfair. How lucky for me as a white passing person to be able to put this book down when I felt uncomfortable and pick it back up when I felt comfortable. People of color don’t get to put those uncomfortable feelings about race down until they feel comfortable to pick them back again. And that’s kind of the point.

I would recommend this book if you’re someone who is uncomfortable about conversations about race. It won’t cure you of racism but it’s important to understand how many black and people of color can be hurt by insensitive actions. I know I don’t want to harm others, and the only way I can do that is by being aware of my own actions.
