This memoir was excellent and I would highly recommend!
Susan’s mother was a Vietnamese immigrant who came to the United States and started two successful nail salons. Even though she was doing well for herself, her mother was always chasing a beauty ideal and turned to plastic surgery. However, she fell into the wrong doctors hands—one that preyed on Vietnamese immigrants and ultimately lost her life due to a botched surgery.
Susan Leiu goes on a journey to get justice for her mother, but instead finds out more about her mother than she previously knew.
I really enjoyed reading about another culture, one that I’m not super familiar with. I was able to listen to the book, and I’m glad I did because she speaks a lot in Vietnamese and there are multiple dialects for even a single word.
It was a very heartfelt and emotional read, it almost made me cry!
