I was a little worried at first that this was going to mostly be a clever way for the author to indulge themselves in 90s punk nostalgia and dunking on cartoonish transhistorical MRA goons, but while those elements remain prominent (and enjoyable!) they also become part of a more interesting take on the personal psychology and historical intricacy of time travel.
The personal story carried it for me, but it depended heavily on a well-executed model of time travel that made the risks and decisions involved feel real — and those same risks and decisions informed the broader plot around the constant revision (and re-revision) of history. These two elements felt more and more integrated as the novel continued, which helped keep things tightly-wound even as the story expanded across time.
