The Curious Secrets of Yesterday by Namrata Patel
medium-paced
4.0
This is the third book I have read by this author. Her writing style invites the reader into the lives, relationships and cultures of the characters.
In this book, the main character Tulsi grew up in a multi-generational household with her mother and grandmother. The family owns a spice shop. Her mother and grandmother are also spice healers. The plan is for Tulsi to take over the family business and healing practice. Tulsi is not in agreement and begins a quest to find her path in life. In the process, she uncovers secrets about her mother’s and grandmother’s past.
I really enjoyed the generational and family tension the author is able to create. She also incorporates a little romance into the story and I found myself cheering for the love connections.
This is a good book for those who like contemporary fiction as well as those who enjoy books from the Indian diaspora.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Kaye Publicity.
