Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

3.0

It took me a very long time to finish this book. One of the reasons was the brutal reading slump and my busy schedule but I think that’s not it. After reading the first part of the series I was expecting it to be more thrilling and have more action but this part was dragged and there wasn’t much story in it.

The first half of the book had some surprises but as the story proceeded it was slow and the only thing that was happening was Alina moving back and forth from the main palace to the little palace. I know that everything was unexpected and difficult for her to handle but she knew Darkling and she had the forces with her but still she never acted as a leader or I should say as a protagonist. I was expecting a badass female lead like Inej or Nina but nah…

I like Nikolai’s character as it has many different aspects. The way Leigh built it clearly depicted the leadership skills and a charming personality. His composure, strategic mind and concern for his people is commendable.

The final battle with Darkling was disappointing, I was expecting Alina to put on a more thrilling fight than before as she had trained more and had more control on her power than before.
The series started pretty well and I hope the last book will be more interesting than this one.
