It's...fine? It's a dark romantasy, emphasis on the romance. I didn't love the writing style, more than anything. Very "purple prose" at times, and not a lot of plot - but great smut if you're into it.

Major, major trigger warnings on this book - not only for background characters but main characters as well. It is graphic, violent, and noncon initially, though it lightens into more dubcon and consensual choking, pain play, etc. as the book continues.

That being said, the smut scenes were kinda wild and definitely the best part of the book, for the more depraved of us. MMF scenes, one-on-one scenes, a bit of a reverse harem. Blood, choking, pain, bondage, and more fun. One good boy and one bad boy. Lots of trauma.

The plot and FMC are the two major weaknesses. The raven shifters and magic systems are cool and unique, but not much actually happens outside of the two MMCs interacting with/sleeping with the FMC, who herself isn't very interesting. Things sort of just happen to her, and she doesn't have much initiative or agency, sexually or otherwise. Overall it feels like 25% plot and 75% romance/smut - which, again, is fine but readers wanting a compelling story outside the romance will be disappointed.

In terms of how "dark" this actually is...idk. Most of the "dark and twisted" is just characters getting sexually assaulted by violent men. Dark and twisted, sure, but so much fiction uses SA as a cheap shortcut to make something feel "dark" and repulsive without adding much real weight. There are a couple more substantiative elements hinted at in the MMCs' backstories, but neither are fully revealed/fleshed out in this book. Perhaps in the seauel.

Don't expect too much, but it's fine if you're ok with the content. I may or may not bother with the second book.
