The Chain
by Adrian McKinty
It's getting harder and harder to find thrillers that genuinely entertain me, and don't devolve into an endless cavern of tropes. Though thriller/suspense is my favorite genre, many novels are just unreliable narrators telling a spooky story out of sequence to create suspense. Also, spoiler alert: it was the narrators spouse. But The Chain is something new and something fresh. A plot so crazy that it just works. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the climax is not what I thought, and the story is more complex than the back of the book.
This is a thriller winner in the same league as my other thriller favorites like "When I Go To Sleep" and "Behind Closed Doors."
This novel wasn't perfect, but it's closer to five stars than four, so I'll leave it where it is.
