A big, hunky, red, alpha alien and a small, curvy, stubborn human woman traveling through space sounds like a set up for hilarious situations.

Unfortunately it doesn't deliver. There are a few fun situations like the teleporting mirror and sucking toilet, but they are few and far between. At least in the beginning. The start is slow. Very slow. The story didn't pickup until the second half, and by then it was too late to reel me in.

I liked the world building and can see how it can develop in coming books. The alien species was detailed and I loved Al. I liked Zoe in the beginning, then she turned stupid and stubborn. Thankfully, she smartened up a bit in the end .
