An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
5.0
I’m going to be real with you for a minute. I put down fantasy books for a long time, because every single one I picked up started to feel like more of the same. The plots are always predictable, the characters were always the same, and even the locations starting to blend together.
Thankfully, this book was a gleeful return to a genre I have always loved, and it was able to reinvigorate that genre for me. Among all of the wonderful things that Sabaa Tahir was able to do in this book, I found myself most impressed by the depth of characterization, and the level at which the author was able to draw me in to the events that were unfolding as I furiously turned each new page.
An Ember in the Ashes definitely deserves a place among the very best fiction on my bookshelf, at the least, and probably on yours too. Five stars!
