Dangerous Breed by Onley James

4.0

#1 Endangered Species: ★★★★★ | 5 stars
#2 Dangerous Breed: ★★★★☆ | 4 stars

I didn't love this one as much as the first book in the series, but it's still a great follow up. And, in typical Onley fashion it's got tragic backstories, a swoony instalove romance, and plenty of action to keep the plot moving. And, I'm glad that Cyrus and Webster's "friends" from prison are all getting their own books.

Memphis Camden survived horrific abuse as a child before he escaped his family at 16. He's spent the last 10 years trying to forget what happened to him and move on. But, when he finds out that his younger brother Knox is in the hospital after facing similar abuse by their oldest brother, he drops everything to rush to his side. Preacher is tasked with protecting Knox until his brother can come at pick him up, but once he meetings Memphis he realizes he can't quite make himself walk away, and decides to appoint himself as their protector. But, Memphis and Knox's oldest brother and father aren't going to make that easy. While Memphis has to work at battling the demons he thought he left behind, Preacher seeks to earn Memphis's trust. And, hopefully his heart.

I spent the entire book wanting to hug Memphis. The stuff he endured as a child were.....gut wrenching. But, I loved how willing he was to face his brother and father (even though it terrified him) because he wanted to keep Knox safe. Preacher's complicated history with helping someone who didn't want it, makes him a perfect match for Memphis. Because Memphis does need and want his help and I think that soothes something in Preacher. And, it was really sweet to see these two learn to trust each other and let their guards down.

Three Thoughts:
1."Elites unofficial twink trauma squad" *snort*
2. There were a lot of cameos from the Elite series - so I could see that being confusing for people who haven't read it. But, I liked seeing so many of these characters again.
3. Javier's wedding present was *chef's kiss*

I really enjoyed this installment of the series, and I was glad to see Preacher and Memphis get their HEA. Can't wait for the next one.
