I just want to start off by saying that this book is very graphic when is comes to sexual assault/rape and domestic abuse so if you can’t stomach that I really don’t recommend reading this. Usually that stuff doesn’t bother me but with this book I found myself having to turn my phone off and put the book away to take a break. With that being said the only thing I didn’t like about this book were the time jumps. They were so confusing to me. I would be reading a new chapter then out of no where “it’s been 2 months since…..” and sometimes the time jumps don’t match up with what’s happening.
Another thing I loved was how August loved Sarai like his own. From the beginning he never held any resentment for her bc of who her father was he loved her the second he laid eyes on her and that was so beautiful. The fact that when he was thinking of an alternative future where Iris chose him he didn’t think of him and Iris having different kids of their own he thought of Sarai being his child. She was a part of his and Iris’ future. And when he wanted to propose to Iris he said he wanted to adopt Sarai bc he wanted things to be as legal between them as it would be between him and Iris. Even in the bonus epilogue, Sarai trusts him so much and you can see and feel all the love he has for her. This is why I love single parent tropes bc you can watch the love between the mc’s child and the love interest grow.
I also want to add that tho this is shown as a romance book I didn’t feel like it was. In my opinion it was more about Iris’ journey in her domestic abuse and tryin go to do what was right for her daughter. They didn’t get together till like ten chapters before the end and before that they had seen each other for a total of like 5 times.i just don’t want anyone rushing into this book thinking it’ll be full of romance bc you will be disappointed.
