A Simple Tale of Water and Weeping by Kami King Larsen

5.0

In a small coastal town with no name resides a young, vibrant, kind, and beautiful girl named, Aylee. She is not as happy as she once was. Fighting her way through a recent breakup that left her heart broken, being told she is to wed soon and that a gentleman, older than most, is who will propose, adds to her unhappiness. Living day after day as the shopkeeper's daughter, although wanting to just do and be who she feels she truly is a struggle, until "he" arrives.
Cailean is a blessing in disguise. Although, a tad awkward and unusual, there is just something about him that draws Aylee in. Reignites the fire within her. The two quickly become fast friends and she finds out that he has many secrets all of which he shares with his new friend. Together, they search for the item he has lost. His lifeline.
Amidst the search, many challenges are faced, both with humans and fey. Some of which are very dangerous.
Will Aylee be able to find the item Cailean seeks? Will the challenges and obstacles in their paths be overcome? Will Cailean find the item in time before death reaches his doorstep? Who will live to tell the tale?

My Review:

A Simple Tale of Water and Weeping took me by surprise. Lightly based on Celtic Folklore, I was entranced by the storyline and drawn into the depths of the story.
A beautiful story filled with everlasting friendship and love. The book shows the qualities of true friendships built on trust and respect and how that, can turn into a love unmatched by others.
The narrative was very well described, seeing as I could imagine and place myself within the story as if watching a movie in my mind.
"Selkies" are a new form of Fey and Folklore I have yet to read about which intrigued me.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stories about magic, folklore, and Fey with a hint of romance.
This is the first book I have read by Kami King Larsen and I plan in the future to read more.
