Electric Idol by Katee Robert

It’s almost not even fair for me to review this book after coming from reading Manacled.. which was insanely epic and well thought out. I know this book isn’t meant to be super in depth. I enjoyed the previous book in this series— not for the intricacies of the plot or for the depth of the writing, but for the exquisite romance that had me craving more of that spark.

Right off the bat I’m a little disappointed by how obvious the setup between these two MCs is. Also, I am VERY concerned about this world that ISN’T Olympus, seems to be set in present times, yet is VERY nonchalantly murderous. There is no real explanation for this, the reader is just required to accept it.

I’m 30% in and it’s a little annoying how much emphasis is put on describing the MC as “plus sized” over and over and over again. It felt unnecessary and took me out of the story.

Ok 100% finished and overall the story was fine. Good enough to read before I go to sleep but not great like I couldn’t put it down. There is no real depth to the plot or characters. The romance is steamy but lacks proper setup so you don’t ever have that angst of desperately wanting two characters to unite. These are good as quick reads that can be stand alones. I preferred the first one to this one. I thought the romance was a tad more organic even though all of these characters seem thrown together very quickly.
