The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

3.0

I was disappointed in this book. I have the same issue with this book than I do with Mary Poppins and The Neverending Story when compared to their movie adaptations. These books didn't know when to end. The movies have a clear arc and are engaging throughout. The books keep going for far too long after the actual climactic event has happened.

Another fault in this book was the fact that the flying monkeys, and not the Wicked Witch, had a big part to play in the plot. The Witch had very little to do with anything that happened to Dorothy and her friends, and the story really suffered in comparison.

Again, I think that if I'd read this as a kid before watching the movie I would have liked it better.
