Love Lost by Patricia Lee Macomber

Did not finish book.

1.0

Well ... my rating is mostly for the audiobook, which was NOT ready for release in my opinion. It still needs editing.

Right off, the chapter menu in audible did not match what was being announced by the narrator (the intro is given "chapter 1" and is one off from then on out). I've heard this is some sort or error that is happening with audible conversions from kindle.

Chapter 1 (or 2, if you are looking at the audible info) introduces Amanda, and the chapter ends with her at work. Then, the next chapter starts up with her on a tropical beach, there's a guy nearby, one she saw when she was in the boat, he was on top of a plane and there was a storm ... ummm, when did this happen? Even the blurb talks about Amanda doing a good deed and going out ... that never happened in the audio edition. I have been in contact (as I was given a free copy in exchange for review) and was then given a Kindle copy to check against ... and sure enough, half of chapter 1 is missing from the audible edition.

While overall I actually liked the narrator's voice, she has this weird addition to so many words, adding a little "a" at the end (justa, borroweda, etc.) It started to drive me absolutely crazy!

In chapter 6 (I think the audible list, so probably chapter five) the narrator starts stumbling over words, stopping, and repeating. At one point, she stumbled and stopped twice, then laughed, then went on. Now, I know narrating is hard, and there are going to be goofs. This is not the narrator at fault ... it's the editing. That kind of stuff has to be edited out. If you are going to charge $20 for an audiobook, it needs to be professional.

Honestly - at that point, I just gave up on the book. The story wasn't grabbing me (even with me filling in what I THINK happened from some later conversations ... that Amanda probably heard a mayday call from Greg over the radio and took her dad's boat out, there was a bright flash ...), I couldn't get past the audio annoyances to even really think about the characters and what was going on.

So DNF for me ... and I hope they pull this audio and recheck it, edit it, before adding it back to Audible. I received a free free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Sorry it wasn't a better one ...
