This was a quick, enjoyable read. Think darker, sexier, Beauty and the Beast murder mystery. Zita (FMC) and Sepher (MMC) had great chemistry and tension, and honestly the spice was spicier than I expected but pretty good. Make sure to check triggers on this stuff though,  lots of it was definitely falling into the dubcon range. It was a little exhausting living in Zita’s head and constantly being reminded that she only lives for revenge when she so clearly was starting to have other reasons to live.
I’m glad that they sorted out that Sepher wasn’t her sister’s murderer about halfway through, because I think it made it more fun and believable to have them working together and falling in love while trying to uncover the real murderer.
The last quarter of the book felt a bit rushed and I missed the budding friendships between Zita and the other female characters,
and a proposal at the climax is a bit cliche but at least it wasn’t him revealing they were mates or something.
I picked this up as a taster for Clare Sager’s writing style and world building before committing to her 600+ page book, which I happily found out will have an appearance by this couple included, and I enjoyed their story enough to continue exploring this world.
