Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente

TLDR: Deathless is a well written tale that describes the feeling of scenes better then the details.

Deathless is a book full of wonderful prose! The story is always full of this sense of beauty and dread. It is an interesting dive into russian folklore. Marya's character arc is good. She is not a good person at all times but her evolution makes sense based on the environment she's been in. She's grows from an innocent girl enchanted with magic to a soldier, A queen of the fae who may as well walked out of a fairy tale. You follow her every step, so it makes sense and doesn't feel out of place. I would say a failing of this book is that sometimes its so vague. It's far better at describing a feeling then an environment in detail. That works for it but I can see how someone else would feel lost or uninterested by it. I wasn't even sure what some of the creatures Marya met were supposed to look like.
