Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

4.0

So, this book really captures all the gothic vibes. It reminded me of Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, but even more of the short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper". For most of the book it's definitely spooky/creepy, but in the last 50 pages or so, it gets down right terrifying! I almost didn't want to go on because some of the subject matter was so disturbing, however, the descriptions weren't very graphic, so I was able to manage it, and at that point I was already too invested to give up. Overall, a fantastic gothic novel set in 1950s Mexico. Just be aware there are some trigger areas.
