Betraying Big Brother: The Feminist Awakening in China by Leta Hong Fincher

3.0

I'm grateful that someone has taken the care (and risk) to document the bravery of the people fighting for women's rights in China. It's unfortunate that I found the author's writing style too dry to convey the tension, tragedy, and incremental triumphs of these heroes. It was hard to finish reading this despite how important and fascinating the subject matter is otherwise.

Also, I learned from this book that until early 2016, Xi Jinping was called the equivalent of "Big Daddy Xi" and wow, what a time to be alive.
