The Writing Class by Jincy Willett

4.0

I fell in love with the characters and lighthearted tone of this novel straight away. It was fun and I chuckled through all the writing classes. Great writing. Great. Except. Just one little thing. About one quarter of the way through the book, I stopped getting lost in the tale and started being conscious of reading. Why? This is a murder mystery. Even says so on the back blurb that there's a murderer amongst them. But I was yet to read about a murder, so I started looking for it. 200 pages with no murder, more than half way through the book. I enjoyed the story again once the killer finally started their spree-ing and again must say it's a well written story. Just needed an actual death earlier on, especially when members of the writing club started to refer to the killer and murderer even though there hadn't been one yet.
If the murder had come a lot sooner, I'd have given it five stars.
