I picked this as my Book of the Month selection because I'd read [book:Black Cake|57926137] by the same author, and liked it a lot. But I liked this story even better! No 'sophomore slump' for Charmaine Wilkerson! The story hooked me from the beginning and was a quick, easy read. The main characters were all likable, even when I didn't like certain decisions that were made. Without giving too much away, the story is centered around an old clay jar that was shattered when the house we broken into. Finding out exactly what happened during this crime is a big part of the story, and I guessed wrong a couple of times. But that is not the main storyline, which centers around how a family handles grief. While the story is wrapped up nicely, I would have liked an epilogue a few years into the future to learn what happens next in Ebby's life. Does Ebby return to France with Robert? Does she develop a friendship with Avery? I hope so! And I REALLY wanted to see the Freeman family get justice! Does Tucker ever get caught after letting everyone thing he died in 9-11?
I found the cover intriguing, even more so after I read the book. I could probably write a whole page just on the symbolism of the cover! 5 Stars for this book!
