This is one of the worst books I’ve ever read. Hear me out? This book wasn’t written for me (that’s okay!) but I think I just don’t like ~comedy~ books. The entire book read like a looooong instagram post or even a shitty podcast rather than a book… maybe my standards for what a ~book~ is are too serious?
I physically gagged during the chapter in which the author goes in depth about shitting herself in front of her boyfriend during covid quarantine. Then she writes an entire paragraph about his asscrack. Man, vulgarity is just not for me (which skews my perception of this book entirely but it’s just my POV).
It was hard to take the author’s very serious takes on political and social issues amid clunky and awkwardly chunked rants about the most useless nonsense, like how she hates dogs and how everyone should wear matching underwear sets everyday. So bizarre.
I genuinely don’t think that anyone edited this book, but on the bright side, I’m convinced that I could easily write a book after reading this— it was published by Penguin Randomhouse for pete’s sake! I speed this audiobook way tf up because I wanted it to be OVER. There was no thesis, no theme; just countless blurbs of random opinions and jokes that were based around shortening words and adding side comments ( i.e. obligation to “obligash”, alliteration to “alliterash”). Also she kept yelling during the audiobook and shouting “hashtag!”.
