Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body
by Roxane Gay
challenging
dark
emotional
reflective
sad
medium-paced
Tw: disordered eating, sexual abuse, rape
I always hate rating memoirs because it feels like I’m trivializing the author’s experiences. I’m rating this more as what my reading experience was like which was overall good and eye-opening. Roxane Gay is without a doubt a talented author but this just felt too heavy handed and repetitive for me (probably a stylistic choice but one that I did not enjoy) and it also treaded the very thin line between empowering and pure cynicism.

Graphic: Body shaming, Eating disorder, Fatphobia, Rape
