I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall
3.0
Welcome to today's edition of rating books 3 stars!
In all seriousness, though, there was nothing remarkable about I Am Still Alive. It was a pick for my book club this month, and I guess it's relatively interesting, but it follows the basic cookie-cutter plot of every survival book ever - person is left alone in the wilderness and must endure snow, wild animals, starvation, etc. . . .
The main character's backstory is also too rife with conflict to be believable. Her mother is killed in a car crash and Jess has to deal with permanent injuries, and then. It just isn't convincing.
None of the characters are fully fleshed out either. My experience reading this book was cardboard - stiff and uninspiring.
