I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall

3.0

Welcome to today's edition of rating books 3 stars!
In all seriousness, though, there was nothing remarkable about I Am Still Alive. It was a pick for my book club this month, and I guess it's relatively interesting, but it follows the basic cookie-cutter plot of every survival book ever - person is left alone in the wilderness and must endure snow, wild animals, starvation, etc. . . .
The main character's backstory is also too rife with conflict to be believable. Her mother is killed in a car crash and Jess has to deal with permanent injuries, and then
Spoilerher father is brutally murdered, and she is left to survive alone in the woods for months
. It just isn't convincing.
None of the characters are fully fleshed out either. My experience reading this book was cardboard - stiff and uninspiring.
