Kafka on the Shore
by Haruki Murakami
Reading this was an experience unlike any I've ever had before. This book is unassuming and conspicuous, it has nothing special at first glance. I started this expecting a good story, but nothing mind-blowing. I'm so happy to have been proven wrong.
This book is worth all the hype. Quite a few times it takes some strange and unexpected turns, but this is one of the reasons why it's so good. You never really know where you are going until you get there. You don't know how Nakata's (the old man) and Kafka's stories will meet until the end, and even then you don't have all the answers - but you don't want all the answers. You want this feeling of incompleteness, you want this mystery. The whole appeal of this book, for me, was that I didn't have all the answers. I don't have half the answers to what happened. And I love it.
