The Curator by Owen King

Did not finish book. Stopped at 52%.
Man, I was so excited for this book. But this was an absolute let down.  DNF at 50%

Where to start? I guess the first thing is that the writing style is verbose. Idk whether to praise Owen King for that, or just sit here feeling dumb. It feels too much, and the whole world-building lacks because of this. I couldn't fully imagine any of the places because the writing style seemed a bit disconnected and long-winded, which really meant that I couldn't immerse myself in the world.

I didn't care about a single character, and actually just kept forgetting things anout characters because they felt too bland.

Then there's the plot. It just felt a bit boring.

And okay, if you like the writing-style and world-building then fair enough, I can completelyunderstand that it just wasn't my cup of tea. But one thing that irritated me most was the poor portrayal of the main female character, Dora. Specifically, there were certain instances where Dora's sexuality was discussed in a manner that seemed objectifying and disrespectful. It was shitty to see the main female character reduced to a puppet, and her decision to remain with a partner who was unsatisfying and unappealing felt uncomfortable and disappointing. More-so, it actually just felt irrelevant to the storyline.

Honestly, I really did try to trudge through it. But after getting half way through and still feeling confused about the plot, and lacking enthusiasm for any character, I had just had enough.
