“I can steal anything.”
“Except myself out of the king’s prison.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, Allow me to introduce the story narrator: Eugenides, Gen for short. From the very first page, I couldn't help but fall in love with him!

In this fantasy world, there exist two stories - one is about Gen, and the other is about Earth's Creation and the Birth of the Gods.

This may contain spoilers. If you want to avoid any spoilers and experience everything completely new, it's best to avoid reading the story of Earth's Creation.

Earth's Creation and the Birth of the Gods:
Earth and the Sky's children, Hephestia the oldest, Hamiathes, and they have more!
Our origins in Earth, but we owe our existence to the Sky, as it created humanity. However, the Sky was impatient and rushed the job, resulting in weak and small humans without divine gifts.
Despite the Earth's efforts to bestow gifts upon them, humans remained ungrateful.
“Why have you made these?” The Sky felt ashamed!

Eugenides (the god of thieves) was a son of Earth but not the Sky. He accidentally killed his brother, Hamiathes saved him, and then Hephestia gave Hamiathes his gift to reward him because she was fond of her brother.
Hamiathes’s Gift is for the king, his right to rule Eddis.

Now, Gen's story:
Gen is currently imprisoned by the king of Sounis. He made a bet that he could successfully steal the king's seal and presented it as evidence the following day at a wine shop. Talented but in prison, so pitty!

The king's magus, one of his most influential advisors, has requested that Gen undertake a secret mission to Eddis. In exchange for his freedom and a generous sum of gold, the magus has asked Gen to steal a secret item.

The queen of Eddis and a court of eleven ministers held the reins of power. If the king of Sounis has Hamiathes's Gift, he can rule over two kingdoms.

Gen, magus, and three others embark on an adventure filled with unexpected events. As they journey together, they begin to learn about each other's stories and secrets.

"Let the gods into your life and you rapidly lose faith in the natural laws. The little birds stopped pecking, and they all fell over dead. I had a stomach full of dead birds..."

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are well-developed, and the world created is fascinating and imaginative. The storyline is captivating and has me eager to read on, to the next book, [b:The Queen of Attolia|40158|The Queen of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #2)|Megan Whalen Turner|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1293505506l/40158._SX50_.jpg|1124161]
