Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear

3.0

An enjoyable book and a novel I would force into the hands of young female readers. Maisie is wonderful protagonist and could be a role model for many.

From a critical standpoint, the book sets the scene and gathers momentum nicely, but suffers from the 100+ page flashback to Dobbs as a child and college student. The flashback moved slower than the main section, and by the time we jump back into the present day story momentum has dissipated.

The series has potential, flashes of a female Sherlock Holmes - I will continue to read and strongly recommend to younger readers.
