Deanna Grey's Outdrawn is an absolute gem of a sapphic romance! This book beautifully captures the slow burn and undeniable chemistry between two fiercely talented artists who start as rivals and discover an undeniable connection. Seriously, I loved this book so much!
Plot Overview:
Webcomic sensations Noah Blue and Sage Montgomery find themselves unexpectedly sharing creative control over the relaunch of the cult classic comic, Queen Leisah. Forced to collaborate, these longtime rivals must navigate their competitive spirits and burgeoning feelings while striving for professional success.
My Thoughts:
Okay, so from the jump, I was SO into Noah and Sage. Grey nailed their personalities – they were so distinct, it was easy to keep them straight. And the way their love built? Chef's kiss! There was definitely some initial lust, but they were so convinced they had to be rivals, which made the slow burn even better.
What I also really appreciated was seeing both Noah and Sage work through their family stuff. They actually stepped up and told their families what they needed, and (eventually!) they listened. Plus, the support they gave each other? Even when their careers were technically in competition? Heartwarming! You just knew their relationship was solid, no matter what their art threw at them.
Tropes:
🔥 Slow Burn
⚔️ College and then Workplace Rivals to Lovers
🫂 Forced Proximity (Workplace)
🧲 Opposites Attract
☀️ Grumpy/Sunshine
Representation:
👩🏾❤️👩🏿 Black Queer Women MCs
🏳️🌈 Sapphic Romance (Lesbian FMC & Bisexual FMC)
👩🏾🎨👩🏾🎨 Women Artists in Comics
💔 Dysfunctional Family Dynamics
🫂 Supportive Workplace Friend Group
Final Thoughts:
Seriously, Outdrawn is a freaking fantastic romance! Deanna Grey just nailed the rivals-to-lovers vibe with Noah and Sage. It's got that slow burn that just works, amazing characters you root for, and a really supportive found family vibe. If you love a sapphic romance with depth, great rep, and will just leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy? You NEED to read this!
