The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love by Sonya Renee Taylor
5.0
This is one of the best “self-help” books I’ve ever read. I’d say that it changed my life but I don’t have enough confidence in my ability or willingness to adhere to its principles. But I will say that it has profoundly and permanently altered my thinking. The general idea is that we should not feel compelled to apologize for our bodies—whether it’s because of their size, skin color, ability, gender, or any other attribute they might possess. The author argues for radical self-love, which she contrasts with mere self-acceptance. The writing is succinct and powerful. I’ve read through this several times now and it blows me away every time. 100% recommend for everyone, and especially anyone who (for any reason) has ever had difficulty with body image.
