“The connections between and among women are the most feared, the most problematic, and the most potentially transforming force of the planet. -Adrienne Rich”

No Spoiler Review:

This book was not what I had expected when I was told about it. I guess I was a bit spoiled to the surprise twist of what made the women “exceptional”. To be honest, I didn’t look any further in than the pretty cover, that had three POVs, and that it was all over booktok. I probably should have done some more research into it.

This book should definitely had a bit of a warning before hand or even a small mention in the blurb about the abuse that occurs in the book. It’s such a large part of the reasonings for women, and it hit me out of left lane. I was expecting a much different form of “exceptional” women than what the book provided, and it was so far out of my normal reading range.

The story was decent, very not fantasy at all. Very empowering. The main characters were well fleshed out. Just probably wouldn’t have read it had I known more about the motivations of the women. It’s a great read for anyone that likes this kind of story, but not so much for the high fantasy and sci-fi lovers who are looking for women empowerment through the lens of elves, fairies, and space wars. It’s very down to earth fantasy.

Would recommend for women who want “could be me, if Earth was slightly different” down-to-Earth fantasy readers, but not any of the Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/Fourth Wing girlies who feed of high fantasy.
