Death in the Air: The True Story of a Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City by Kate Winkler Dawson

3.0

In 1952, the great London smog, fueled by coal-spewing smokestacks, literally choked the city. Some 12,000 people died from the noxious pollutants released in just a few days. At the same time, a serial killer stalked London women. What do those threats have in common? Not as much as this part-history, part-true crimer would have you believe. Devil in the Soot City? It’s a stretch. Best as a postmortem of an environmental catastrophe that’s largely faded from the history books. Of the two killers, only the smog takes your breath away.
