The Paris Novel by Ruth Reichl
1.0
So, this book has a simple message, if you’re a slim, good looking white woman with innumerable secret talents, then you will be welcomed with open arms in one of the most expensive cities in the world—Paris—and invited to indulge in many expensive and exclusive experiences by rich men. Who on Earth was this book written for?
The only things I liked about this book were the descriptions of the food, but everything else was ridiculous, not to mention contrived and oh so neat.
And, don’t start off a book with childhood sexual abuse and do nothing with it beyond that. What was that about? It’s the age-old trope of the only way to build character for a woman in stories is by throwing sexual assault at her. It explains some of her timidness to life, but most of it appears to be because of her horrid mother.
This was an irritating and annoying book. Hard pass.
