This book WRECKED me. best book i’ve read in recenr years. reread so many passages and because i just could not absorb any other book, during drives i would play the audiobook from the start while i was at 75% in the ebook. reread inception.
the writing is gorgeous, themes of black girl, mother and daughterhood, grief, intergenerational fantasy are so thoughtfully penned down. a squeal worthy but age appropriate(!!!!!) romance subplot that is ✨chef’s kiss✨ in this urban fantasy based on BOTH Arthurian and African American magic systems. I just can’t. This is the stuff of my dreams.
i’m an audiobook girly but i’m glad i read this one on my reader because i really had to cross reference names, terms or even just look up unfamiliar english terms which i don’t usually have to do! and they didn’t feel pretentious but like yeah damn that’s probably the most perfect word to go with 🤷🏾♀️🙏🏾
