The language of the book was lovely to read, and the writing nailed what it feels like to think and feel in the wake of the experiences of the protagonist. While the narrator is supposed to be somewhat unreliable, the narrative seemed to be very weirdly dismissive of misgivings when they were absolutely warrented, no question about their reality as they had to have occurred as events to make sense. The love interest was also a massive ass, quite manipulative, treated as justified, but dangerously leaning into the same territory as a repeat of what they were running from. Uneasy with the "happy" tone that involves throwing out all survival instict and boundaries for a very demanding and controlling new partner.
