Ten Words to Live by: Delighting in and Doing What God Commands by Jen Wilkin

5.0

This book changed my perspective on the Ten Commandments. Jen Wilkin wishes the readers to better understand and apply the Old Testament commandments in a practical way, reflecting on the law of the Lord.

We live on this side of the cross, but that doesn’t mean we should forget the commands that God gave us. The law of God isn’t an outdated list of rules, and Wilkin explains, breaking each one down how they still mean so much, and why we should follow them.

There are ways that each ‘Word’ was broken down that just blew my mind and expanded my thoughts on why God has commanded us this way. I have grown in a greater appreciation of the Law of God, but also in my awareness of my sin.
Definitely a wonderful, eye-opening read.

Paul puts it beautifully in Romans 7:7-12:
“What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.”
