Long Bright River by Liz Moore

4.0

Poverty, drug abuse, addiction, dysfunctional families, police corruption, abuse of power. This book is overwhelming, but so beautifully written.
A gut wrenching portayal of a drug infested neighbourhood, and the consequences of poor decisions, poverty and addiction. It was honestly painful to read most of this story, but Mickey's fearlessness in her mission to find her sister was both heartbreaking and beautiful.
The portrayal of addiction was so raw and unfiltered, it gave me goosebumps. It will definitely stay with me for a long time.
The murder investigation part of the book was a bit predictable, but I wasn't bothered by it.
