I don't think I've ever had so many of my own internal conflicts and feelings about both womanhood and motherhood reflected like this. The pacing throughout the book was admittedly a bit off, but I (kind of unexpectedly tbh) tore through the last bit of this while on a plane and marked so many pages because I just felt truly seen and touched by Kawakami's writing, so I think this will always have a special place in my heart for that alone.
