And yes I'm still rating it because, wow, it was just that bad.

The whole "oh woe is me my inner wolf is so evil and bad I cannot control myself" started to annoy me in the prologue already and from there onwards it just got worse. Also, no exposition whatsoever on how the whole shifter thing worked.
And it was "werewolf" but "horse shifter"? I just found the distinction confusing. Why not wolf shifter or werehorse for consistency?

An adult character lusting after a teen to the point of being afraid they would not be able to hold back already squicked me out, but to then a year later find that teen again, abused to almost death, and start making out immediately was just... nope. It stopped before going past kissing, and I decided to give the book one last chance. But just a few minutes later full on sex happened, where it also turned out that the teen had no previous sexual experience, and wanted to stop before penetrative sex, but those concerns were brushed aside with a "I won't hurt you" followed by an internal "oh but you shouldn't because I'm an EVIL WOLF" and that was it for me.

I'm sad because the combination of wolf and horse and cowboys and animal rescue sounded amazing, but the delivery, execution, and simply the choices this story made was just a huge N O P E.

Buddy read with Isaiah. Sorry, I just don't have it in me to finish this. I'm impressed you managed and wrote such a high quality review about it.

Before reading: I'm a simple guy, I see werewolf cowboy and horse shifter, I hit "buy".
